Reilly was at the edge of the forest, between the trees and the town. And he was staring pathetically at the tree in front of him. Deciding one's future really is a hard thing to do. What will he do? Go home, to school, work? He's really old; he probably shouldn't attend the school. Maybe he'll be too weak to do laborious work. And home is just plain boring.
Darn, that tree looks good. If only life were so simple that everyone just ate trees. But then everyone would be taking trees as their property. Or all of the trees would have been eaten by the time they figured in out. Why would everyone be eating trees in the first place?? How long has he been here now? Thirty minutes?

"How long do you plan to stand there?" Blair asked staring at Reilly. She had been on a patrol and spotted him standing, just standing. At first she watched to make sure he wasn't a threat. Then she realized who it was, one of the guards. What was his name again?

Reilly looked up, distracted, at the person standing nearby. He gasped when he recognized her, immediately striaghtening up and slapping the side of his hand to his face in salute. "Averill, ma'am!!" He looked around worriedly, as if there were an answer on the dirt. "Uh... Seeing if the forest was safe from tree-eating peoples, ma'am!"

"At ease, soldier," Blair gave him a salut as well. She raised a single brow at Reilly's peculiar respones, but shrugged it off without a second thought. "Good work. Since the forest seems safe why don't you joinme on my patrol of the town?"

She was a nice person, hiring him as a guard, to protect the city. People were so trusting here. Trust someone with to a whole city or simply walk with them. What if one were a traitor and tricked them or something? He frowned. Whatever. Not like he was one.
Reilly trusted that the trees were in good shape. He forgot about them and relaxed, taking his hand down. He smiled broadly, then hopped-ran-tripped to Blair. “So you wanna go eat? I’m hungry. You never told me when my …break? ...was.” He glanced at his stomach, then to Blair’s, not knowing if she wanted to eat as well.

Blair gave a slight chuckle. "You can have your break now if you wish. There's not a set time for a break," she replied. it was getting around lunch-time, perhaps she could take a short break and eat with him. A small one wouldn't hurt, would it? "Alright, lets go get something to eat."

“Yes, yes!” An aggressive look of achievement dominated his face. “Wanna go there?” Reilly pointed to an icecream stand. Chocolate ice cream was all he wanted. He thought real food wasn’t very appetizing.

Blair looked to were Reilly was pointing and internally winced. Icecream? He considered icecream lunch? Well a treat would be nice every once in awhile. "Sure why not," she shrugged.

Reilly walked carefully to the stand, glaring at the ground with intense focus. He thought he should perhaps act more normal in front of his boss. He smiled at the ice cream person and ordered two vanilla-fravored icecream. He dramatically turn his head to Blair. "Want me to pay, or you?"

"I'll buy. My treat to you," Blair said pulling out a few coins and handing them to the man. "So, Reilly, what have you been up too on your spare time." She thought it would be good to find out more about him. Sure he was a good guard, but she didn't know anything about him other than that.

Reilly did a little jig in his mind. No subtrations in my money!! He smiled. "I go swim or something at the river. Keeps my fit and entertained. The animals there are also nicer than back home." He smiled again and lciked his icecream. "I walk around, too, around the Academy. I don't see many peoples though, so I leave after a while."

"Yeah, I don't think classes have started yet. So its pretty low key," Blair chomped down on the top of her icecream, a determind look in her eyes.

“I was thinking of being a student, but I’ll be the oldest there. And I’m pretty much past wanting to learn by now. So that’s why I’m working as a guard!” Reilly beamed. He was very bouncy. His bounciness resulted in almost dropping his cone. Fortunately, he tilted the other way and his ice-cream went back into place. “So, what are you doing here? Find nothing better than to protect an almost scarcely-attacked town?”

"The monks said it would be good for my soul," Blair said finishing off the rest off her icecream. She glanced at Reilly. He had just told her his thoughts so she she answer his question in return. A small smile graced her features and she summed up her life story in only a few sentences. "So I acted as a hired body guard for awhile, well a long time actually. Traveling all the time can get pretty tiring."

"What monks? From where?" Reilly decided that the best way to end his lunch was to just stuff the rest of his ice cream in his mouth. After swallowing everything down, he said, "If those monks were anything like my parents, life outside would definitely be better for my soul." He didn't wait for a response. "Hired body guard? Traveling? Wow, how I'd love to be you. How'd you end up here?"
